There is a debate going on around the community about letting mountain ebikes ride mountain trails. They are designed to produce a lot more torque with minimal effort using a battery. It is very convenient for older bikers. However they also can be very dangerous. A computer is used to monitor the speed and limit how fast it goes. However it would only take one idiot to hack the computer and release all limitations. Someone could end up going way to fast without being able to stop and seriously hurt someone or even kill them. Right now most trails ban ebikes. Although there is a large push to allow them on the trail. Doing so could cause destruction to trail property. The battery is not typically weather sealed so riding across puddles could create a hazard. Although as I said the biggest problem is the risk to human life.
